Unrequieted Dreams, Who Has Them?
“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter–tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning– So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Gatsby lived in his dream, the green light, across the bay. A green light which signaled to him the presence of his dream, Daisy, the woman, it was said, he loved. Yet his dream was never fulfilled. It remained just that, an unrequited dream. Perhaps with you, and I, the pursuit of our dreams is like rowing a boat against a current. A current that is always sweeping us backward into our past. We, unawares, see our dreams recede with the years until we have forgotten that we had them. Do you have unrequited dreams? Do you have unrequited love? My past is a huge treasure chest of dreams and experiences. I live off these dreams and experiences, but I am careful not to live in them. Living in my dreams has caused me to lose my vision. Now I live, steering for my dreams, not living in them.
