It is such a Mysterious Place, the Land of Tears
It is a secret place the land of tears (The little Prince – Antoine de Saint St Exupery).
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery is my favorite book, I have read it over 50 times, and still revert back to it today. For those that don’t know, it’s a story about a little Prince, his planet and a rose, with who he is in love.
I have done a lot of crying this week. I have been under a cloud of depression that has rendered me hopeless, confused and feeling unloved.
It is very difficult for me to write this article. I feel like I have nothing to offer as words of encouragement, perseverance and hope. The depression set in good and proper this week.
Then….. Thanks to a book I am currently reading called the Man’s Search for meaning by Dr. Viktore Frankel (worth a read by the way)
I realized that sometimes there is healing in sharing. So here goes, this will be my most unusual article so far. Catch up on my previous posts here.
My hope is that this article reaches someone who really needs to read it!
There are many factors to my feeling of hopelessness and a deep sense of not being loved for the person that I become when my meds don’t work. There is only so much that your loved ones can take of your brand of crazy….
My medication hasn’t been doing what it’s supposed to do and that usually makes me a very difficult person to be around.
The distance between the “almost husband” and I, and the loneliness is starting to really hurt. Unfortunately, when my meds aren’t working well, he is the first person who gets the brunt of it… So I’ve found myself on a little planet with only a cantankerous rose for company. She has seen some very serious crying, ranting and a general feeling of heartbreak.
I realized that I needed to get off the planet immediately and I knew I was the only one who had the power to do so.
There were three things I needed to do.
I took myself to my favorite restaurant for coffee and a good chat with myself and my journal. (Readers if you are not journaling, start NOW. But I will cover that topic another day).
I went to go and have a good heart to heart chat to both my Doctors. It wasn’t pleasant or easy. But many issues were resolved with some long term impacts.
The third thing I did was I baked!! Yes, I am one of those people; when things get me down and I have no idea how to cope, I bake! The feeling of accomplishment and sharing often puts things in perspective for me.
My girls of course love it when these missions take place!!
So today I am going to do something very unusual, I am going to share a recipe I make often. These are the most decadent chocolate brownies you will ever taste. And I’m a firm believer that chocolate has healing properties. So grab your apron, turn on the oven and be prepared to be amazed and maybe even experience a little bit of healing!!
Sylvie’s Choc Brownies
Ingredients:
115g butter (extra for greasing)
115g plain chocolate, broken into pieces
300g caster sugar
Pinch of salt
1tsp vanilla essence
2 large eggs
140g plain flour
2Tbsp coco powder
100g white chocolate chips (or chopped plain cooking chocolate, both work well)
Method in the madness:
Preheat oven to 180’C
Grease and line an 18cm square cake tin
Place butter and chocolate in a double boiler (or a glass bowl with simmering water over a pot)
Stir until smooth, allow to cool slightly
Stir in the sugar, salt and vanilla essence
Add eggs one at a time
Stir until blended
Sift the flour, coco powder into the mixture and beat until smooth.
Stir in the white chocolate chips (or chopper chocolate)
Pour mixture into prepared tin and bake in the pre-heated oven for 35 minutes or until a cocktail stick comes out almost clean; DO NOT over cook
Leave to cool slightly
Cut the brownies into squares.
Now, ENJOY their healing powers….
